Call of Duty Locks Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Characters Behind $80 Paywall
Activision’s latest crossover with the iconic TMNT franchise comes with a hefty price tag, sparking mixed reactions among players.

Activision has announced that the beloved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) will be joining Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops 6 as part of the Season 2 Reloaded update. However, fans hoping to play as Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, or Raphael will need to dig deep into their wallets. Each turtle skin is priced at 2,400 COD Points, equivalent to $20, meaning players will have to spend a total of $80 to unlock all four characters.
The TMNT-themed event, which launches this Thursday, introduces new maps, modes, and cosmetic items inspired by the iconic crime-fighting quartet. However, the pricing strategy has drawn criticism from the gaming community. To make matters worse, players who want access to additional TMNT-themed content, including a Splinter skin and exclusive cosmetics, will need to purchase the premium battle pass for an extra $10. This brings the total cost of acquiring all TMNT-related content to $90—more than the price of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 itself.
Comparisons to Fortnite’s TMNT Bundle
The pricing has sparked comparisons to -Fortnite, which offered a TMNT bundle in December 2023 for 3,400 V-Bucks (approximately $32). While the Call of Duty skins include additional items like finishers and other in-game cosmetics, the stark difference in cost has left some players questioning Activision’s pricing model.
Activision’s Confidence in Player Spending
Despite the backlash, Activision’s decision reflects a broader trend in the gaming industry, where publishers capitalize on popular crossovers and cosmetic items, knowing that dedicated fans are willing to pay a premium. The TMNT skins are expected to be a hit among players, given the franchise’s enduring popularity.
What’s Included in the TMNT Event?
The Season 2 Reloaded update brings more than just the TMNT skins. Players can expect new maps, modes, and a battle pass filled with themed rewards. However, the premium battle pass, which costs $10, is required to unlock the most sought-after items, including the Splinter skin.
Community Reaction
The announcement has sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with some players expressing frustration over the high cost. “$90 for TMNT skins is insane,” one user tweeted. “I could buy a whole new game for that price.” Others have pointed out that the total cost exceeds the price of Black Ops 6, which retails for $70.
While the TMNT crossover is undoubtedly exciting for fans of both franchises, the steep price tag has left many questioning whether the content is worth the investment. As the gaming industry continues to explore monetization strategies, the debate over the value of in-game cosmetics shows no signs of slowing down.
