Bluetooth Technical Operations

Bluetooth Technical Operations

Bluetooth is a high speed, low powered wireless link

technology that's designed to connect phones or other

portable equipment together with little to no work

required by the user.  Unlike infrared, Bluetooth

doesn't require line of site positioning to work.

Current prototype circuits are contained on a board

that is 0.9 cm square, with a much smaller circuit

board being developed.

When one Bluetooth device comes in contact with

another, they will automatically exchange addresses

and details of capability.  Then, they can establish

a 1 MB link with security that they will use as

required.  The protocols involved with handle both

data and voice, with a very flexible topography.

The technology achieves its goal by embedding tiny,

non expensive short range tranceivers into the

devices available today.  The radio operates on the

2.45 GHz frequency band, and supports up to 721

KBps, along with three voice channels.

Each devices offers a unique 48 bit address from

the IEEE 802 standard, with the connections being

point to point or multipoint. The max range is

10 meters, although it can be extended to 100

meters by increasing the power.  The devices are

also protected from radio interference by changing

their frequencies, also known as frequency hopping.

What's important, is the fact that Bluetooth

devices won't drain battery life.  The specification

targets power consumption of the device, limiting

the drain on the battery.  The radio chip will

consume only 0.3mA in stand by mode, which is less

than 5% of the power that standard phones use.

Bluetooth will also guarantee security at the bit

level.  The authentification is controlled by the

user via a 128 bit key.  The radio signals can

be coded with anything up to 128 bit.  With the

frequency hopping, Bluetooth is already very

hard to listen into.

The baseband protocol is a combination of both

circuit and packet switches.  Slots can be reserved

for synchronous packets as well.  Each packet

will be transmitted in a different hop frequency.

Normally, a packet covers a single slot although

it can be extended to cover up to five slots.

Bluetooth can also support data channels of up to

three simultaneous voice channels.  Therefore,

it's possible to transfer the data while you talk

at the same time.  Each individual voice channel

will support 64 KB.

From a technical standpoint, Bluetooth is very

different indeed.  It's the best wireless method

in the world, surpassing even infrared.  For

communication on the go, Bluetooth is indeed

very hard to compete with.

A Popular Auto Responder Marketing Technique

A Popular Auto Responder Marketing Technique

Marketing through auto responder series is a popular strategy to increase repeat website visits and sales. Here is a popular strategy.

EZINE EBOOK

Instead of trying to publish a small daily or weekly eZines, try publishing one large monthly eZine (similar to a monthly magazine) as an e-book format delivered via auto responder, preferably an Adobe .pdf file. You could have it made up of a large number of articles per issue and insert regularly featured areas throughout like inspirational quotes, industry tips, favorite sites and advice from the pros. You could also insert full-color graphics, multimedia components like audio / video file links and ads. Then you can charge a monthly rate, with an annual discounted package purchase, and sell advertising spots to sprinkle in your auto responder announcements for each issue and with an informational series to announce your monthly eZine to new prospects.

In summary, by using customized marketing techniques like an eZine eBook, tailored to fit your own products and services, you can reach out and increase your website traffic and sales opportunities. Internet marketing can mean more ways to grow your business.

The History of Three Mile Island

The Three Mile Island incident refers to a partial meltdown that occurred at a nuclear power plant on March 28, 1979, near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA. The plant, located on Three Mile Island in the Susquehanna River, had two reactors: Unit 1 and Unit 2. It was the Unit 2 reactor that experienced the accident, which became the most serious accident in the history of the American commercial nuclear power industry.

Background:

The Three Mile Island power plant began operations in the 1970s during a period of growing enthusiasm for nuclear power. At the time, nuclear energy was seen as a promising solution to the energy crisis, providing a reliable and cleaner alternative to fossil fuels.

The Accident:

On March 28, 1979, Unit 2 experienced a mechanical failure in the secondary cooling system, followed by a series of operator errors and a loss of coolant in the reactor core. The specific sequence of events included:

1. Equipment Malfunction: A relief valve failed to close, leading to the loss of coolant, essential for regulating the reactor's temperature.

2. Human Error: Operators misinterpreted signals from the malfunctioning equipment, leading them to take incorrect actions that worsened the situation.

3. Core Meltdown: As the coolant drained, parts of the nuclear core were exposed, and temperatures began to rise, leading to the partial meltdown of the reactor core.

Though the core was damaged, the containment structures around the reactor largely held, preventing a significant release of radioactive materials into the environment. However, a small amount of radioactive gas was released, causing concern among the public.

Public Reaction and Aftermath:

The accident created widespread fear and anxiety. Initially, officials were slow to communicate the extent of the situation, which led to rumors and confusion. Approximately 140,000 people evacuated the area, though it was later determined that no one in the immediate area was seriously harmed by radiation exposure.

Despite no direct health impacts, the incident deeply undermined public confidence in nuclear energy, both in the United States and globally. It also led to:

- Reforms in Nuclear Safety: The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) implemented stricter safety standards, better training for plant operators, and upgraded plant equipment.

- Suspension of Nuclear Power Expansion: The accident significantly slowed the development of new nuclear plants in the U.S., as the public and policymakers became more cautious about nuclear energy.

Long-term Consequences:

- Unit 2 was never restarted and was officially decommissioned.

- The Unit 1 reactor continued to operate until 2019, when it was also permanently shut down.

- The cleanup of Unit 2 took over a decade and cost approximately $1 billion. The damaged reactor remains sealed, with radioactive waste stored on-site.

Legacy:

The Three Mile Island accident remains a key event in the history of nuclear energy. It influenced public policy, regulatory frameworks, and perceptions of nuclear safety. The incident contributed to shaping the modern debate around the benefits and risks of nuclear power and remains a reference point for discussions about nuclear accidents, alongside incidents like Chernobyl (1986) and Fukushima (2011).

Online Gaming For Mom and Dad...

Online Gaming For Mom and Dad...

Have you ever wondered what your child was rambling on about at the dinner table when he or she started saying things like “VR” or “RPG”? If so, you’re not alone. “VR” and “RPG” aren’t new text messaging acronyms – they’re acronyms for gaming and this article is going to introduce you to some of the more common forms.

If you at least thought of the Internet when you heard “VR” or “RPG” however, you’re on the right track. Exclusive to the online environment, “VR” or “RPG” – which consequently stands for virtual reality gaming and role playing games – are just two aspects of a gaming world gone wild. The days of playing scrabble in front of the fireplace are over in today’s generation, but we don’t believe you’ll hear too many people complaining about it. Today’s generation is fascinated with online gaming – an opportunity to play games over the Internet with hundreds of people at a time.

GAMEFLY

Available to anyone with a computer and fast Internet connection, there are thousands of online games available to play by anyone... sometimes free and sometimes for a fee. They range from the familiar family board games to strange and more complicated games which require a hundred page manual to understand. One thing that they all have in common however is that they’re fun to play.

The most common type of online game you’ll probably run into is the Flash game - usually located on educational sites or Yahoo! for Kids for example. These games may or may not involve other players, but they’re always full of color, they’re fast to download, and they’re fun to play. Since they run inside the web browser, no special equipment is needed. These are the simple games – more intriguing than checkers, but no more difficult to play than chess.

Another type of online gaming is more violent than the ones we described above and it’s similar to the “shoot-em-up” type games found on the first Nintendo and Playstation systems. Designed from the first person’s point of view, the player typically maneuvers around the screen as a weapon-clad hand – periodically changing weapons as the game’s scenario permits. The violence in these games vary from mild to offensive, and as a parent, you’re cautioned to monitor your children’s access to them – especially since these games are played online with other people.

GAMESTOP

Next, in terms of complication or violence, comes the virtual reality gaming and role playing games that we introduced earlier. These types of games require an extensive amount of time spent online since players assume the role of a game character in play. Players work hard to build up an inventory of weapons or skills – none of which can be accomplished in a period of thirty minutes or less. They then go on to interact with other characters which extends game time even longer (if it even stops). Both virtual reality gaming and role playing games require and encourage strategic thinking, but as parents, you may not be comfortable with the violence that’s prominent in some of these games. Nor may you be comfortable with the amount of time that playing these kinds of games can consume. Depending on the complexity of the game, any one person could spend at least six months at a game and having access to thousands of other players simultaneously doesn’t exactly make them easy to walk away from.

Our best advice is to learn about these games right along with your child and make the decision to play them (or not play them) together. You can find some helpful advice about making computer decisions with children in our article entitled, “Protecting Children Online.”

Computer Hardware & Components Explained

 Computer Hardware & Components Explained

The equipment like tools, keys, locks, chains and all the other equipments that are made up of metals and are used in mechanical processes like repairing or maintenance in the process of dealing with machines. With hardware people are sometimes confused between hardware and computer hardware. But there is a major difference between hardware and computer hardware.

What is computer hardware?

All those components of computer system that are tangible and on which either input could be given (like keyboard and mouse etc.) or output could be received (like monitor and printer etc.) are known as computer hardware. These hardware components of computer system themselves do not generate instructions but process the instructions generated by either software or user.

Computer hardware is only a subset of word hardware that is when we say computer hardware we only mean the hardware used in computer system but if we say only hardware we mean all the hardware that can be used in any machine. Computer hardware includes following parts in computer system like: keyboard, mouse, floppy drive, hard disk, CD Drive, printer, RAM etc.

But do the hardware alone makes the computer system not it is wrong. A computer system with hardware and without software is life less that means it is same as like a skeleton without life. To make a computer system fully functional software is essential with the hardware. The very basic software that is required for making computer to work in a friendly manner and making it to support all the user activities is operating system.

What is Operating System?

In a layman language operating system is the software that brings life to computer system. Operating system itself does not do any thing but provides an environment in which other software programs could execute. It provides an interface between the user and the computer hardware. It directs the user to operate on the computer. It provides guidelines to user on how to work on computer. Operating system is the software that makes other hardware work in an efficient manner.

The field of hardware and software has also become the career for new generation and has very wide prospects in this field. People who wanted them to be established as hardware or software engineers can complete their degree or diploma course from any reputed institution and start their career with the established organization or can if they are willing to be entrepreneurs they can start their own company working in this field.

Auto Responder Marketing Techniques

Auto Responder Marketing Techniques

The Internet offers many means of affordable marketing with auto responders. Here are a couple of popular ways of using them.

DIRECTORY

Some webmasters set up link or article directories on their sites. They create a directory on a specific industry topic, placing their own ad or banner along the top. Then they invite others to add their website links via a link exchange program, listing themselves in your directory. Or they invite articles to be submitted that include a resource box at the bottom of each with a link to the author's website. This results on increased traffic as sites link up across the World Wide Web. Enter link exchange software or article directory software into a favorite search engine for help with each.

TEACH A COURSE

Some marketers write up a simple step-by-step instructional class in their area of expertise. Then they break it up into smaller portions or messages and set them up in an auto responder as email messages, including short ads within each message to invite sales & website visits. Then they invite website visitors to sign up through on online form or email subscription address offered through the auto responder service. As people sign up, they will learn more about the products and services through the teaching series.

Accessorizing Computers What Comes Out of the Box is a Really Just a Starter Kit

Accessorizing Computers

What Comes Out of the Box is a Really Just a Starter Kit

Yesterday, we spent about three hours trying to convince a client of ours that brand new computers just don’t come equipped with the all things that most computers need in a PC. We tried to convince him that a fully functional computer is one that is personalized with specially selected hardware and software accessories - and that the computer purchased at the store doesn’t come with these things. Unfortunately, all of our convincing was to our avail. Our client insisted that he should never need more than what came with his boxed product and that we were just trying “bilk” more money out of him.

As computer consultants, it’s our job and mission to make sure our clients are 100% satisfied when they walk out our offices. But our job is unnecessarily made harder when people don’t take the time to learn about computer accessories and familiarize themselves with the limitations of store-bought computers. Hopefully by the time you finish reading this article, you’ll understand the lesson that we were trying to teach our client: “What comes out of the box is really just a starter kit.”

The typical computer package comes with a CPU unit, keyboard, mouse, and speaker set. That may be just fine for some, but most people require more than that especially in today’s “connected” society. Today’s users require full multimedia capabilities, a wide range of graphics tools, and accommodations for the various portables we now enjoy. These extras aren’t included with “what comes out of the box,” and the only way to get them is to accessorize.

To illustrate the importance of accessorizing, we like to use the “plain dough” analogy. Let’s say that a brand new computer is a batch of plain dough – waiting to be flavored and baked into something useful. If we want to use this dough to make a delicious batch of chocolate chip cookies, we would need to “accessorize” this dough with chocolate chips and a little brown sugar. If we want to use this dough into in a warm loaf of sesame seed bread on the other hand, we’d need to “accessorize” the dough with yeast and sesame seeds.

Like “plain dough,” the brand new computer isn’t very useful by itself. It needs accessorizing.

Depending on what’s needed, accessorizing doesn’t need to be expensive. In fact, you can get away with paying a minimal amount for extra software and hardware if these accessories are for children. It’s when these accessories are work requirements or when they’re needed to produce works of quality for any other reason that they can become rather expensive. And this expense applies to microphones, digital cameras, PDAs, scanners, video cams, and more.

Regardless of cost, it’s important to understand that accessories can become “necessities,” and that the best time to get them is the moment you buy a new computer. Waiting too long to accessorize can cause more problems than necessary because while you wait, manufacturers continuously develop new technologies – technologies that your computer won’t be able to accommodate in the future. Once you’re ready to accessorize, the new products on the market are too advanced for your computer and they just won’t work. This is a typical problem experienced by those who want to use hardware designed for Windows Vista on a Windows XP or Windows 2000 machine.

Radio Controlled Hobbies: A Technological History

Radio Controlled Hobbies: A Technological History

You push a lever on your remote, and your remote control plane veers to the left. It almost seems like magic. Radio control is one of the most magical inventions of the modern era. It has a very long and intriguing history.

Linguistic research into the origins of the word radio reveals that it was from the prefix -radio-meaning concerned with radiations. The word radio came into being before Hertz's discovering of electromagnetic radiations. Initially what was radio-telegraphy and radio-telephony over time came to be just radio. One of the first people to popularize the term was another pioneer in America in the field of wireless transmission: Dee Forest.

Tesla demonstrated wireless telegraphy in 1893 almost eight years after the discovery of the electromagnetic waves by Hertz. Jagdish Chandra Bose in 1894 used electromagnetic waves to ignite gun powder and strike a gong in Calcutta (Now Kolkatta) in India. That possibly was the dawn of wireless/radio communications and its applications in science. Tesla in 1896 transmitted wireless signals for nearly 30 miles distance and patented his first four tuned circuit wireless system as being the first practical wireless transmission equipment. Marconi in 1899 spanned the English channel with this wireless transmission.

The dawn of the new century also was the beginning of a new era when Marconi performed the first trans-Atlantic radio signal in 12th December, 1901. The crystal sets which were patented by J.C. Bose came to be commonly used for detecting and receiving radio signals. There have been numerous disputes over who exactly was the first to conceive the idea or wireless transmission, Tesla or Marconi. In between somewhere there is one Popov who was also a pioneer in this field! Tesla is said to have run into financial troubles that greatly limited his run in the race. But nevertheless, Tesla seems to have been the first, but the controversy over this is not our concern now. Whoever it was, the truth stands is that it was one of the finest inventions in the history of science.

The first decade of the century saw many entrepreneurs and experimenters working with wireless radio but it was about at the near end of the first decade that definite hobby interests sparked. Radio signals were originally produced by spark transmitters, which were noisy and inefficient. Then the alternator-transmitter and then the arc-transmitter came into being.

The invention of vacuum-tude diodes and triodes revolutionized the radio transmission and receivers. The invention of triode amplifier generators made audio possible and started a new era of audio radio. The vacuum tubes were the staple component for a long time until the invention of the transistor which made the equipment more precise, concise and efficiently mobile!

Then, AT&T used the vacuum tubes to transmit voices over phone lines and this lead to the experimenting of speeches over long distances for audience to hear over loudspeakers. Commercialization was thought about from the initial days but there was no way to restrict the transmission to specific paid users and broadcasting remained commercial-free. Then AT&T started the idea of advertising to finance the programming, and it is here to stay until this very date. There have been constant innovations in the field of radio broadcasting with the latest craze being internet radio. So, radio is NEVER out of date but it is forever coming in new forms.

How Bluetooth Works

How Bluetooth Works

Bluetooth devices will normally operate at 2.4 GHZ

in the license free, globally available ISM radio

band.  The advantage to this band includes worldwide

availability and compatibility.  A disadvantage to

this however, is that the devices must share this

band with other RF emitters.  This includes

automobile security systems, other wireless devices,

and other noise sources, such as microwaves.

To overcome this challenge, Bluetooth employs a

fast frequency hopping scheme and therefore uses

shorter packets than other standards within the

ISM band.  This scheme helps to make Bluetooth

communication more robust and more secure.

Frequency hopping

Frequency hopping is basically jumping from frequency

to frequency within the ISM radio band.  After a

bluetooth device sends or receives a packet, it

and the device (or devices) it's communicating with

hop to another frequency before the next packet is

sent.  This scheme offers three advantages:

1.  Allows Bluetooth devices to use the

entirety of the available ISM band, while never

transmitting from a fixed frequency for more than a

short period of time.  This helps insure that

Bluetooth conforms to the ISM restrictions on the

transmission quantity per frequency.

2.  Ensures that any interference won't

last long.  Any packet that doesn't arrive safely

to its destination can be resent to the next

frequency.

3.  Provides a base level of security as

it's very hard for an eavesdropping device to predict

which frequency the Bluetooth devices will use

next.

The connected devices however, must agree upon the

frequency they will use next.  The specification

in Bluetooth ensures this in two ways.  First, it

defines a master and slave type relationship between

bluetooth devices.  Next, it specifies an algorithm

that uses device specific information when

calculating the frequency hop sequences.

A Bluetooth device that operates in master mode can

communicate with up to seven devices that are set in

slave mode.  To each of the slaves, the master

Bluetooth device will send its own unique address

and the value of its own internal clock.  The

information sent is then used to calculate the

frequency hop sequences.

Because the master device and each of the slave

devices use the same algorithm with the same initial

input, the connected devices will always arrive

together at the next frequency that they have agreed

upon.

As a replacement for cable technology, it's no

wonder that Bluetooth devices are usually battery

powered, such as wireless mice and battery powered

cell phones.  To conserve the power, most devices

operate in low power.  This helps to give Bluetooth

devices a range of around 5 - 10 meters.

This range is far enough for wireless communication

but close enough to avoid drawing too much power

from the power source of the device.

Ways To Improve Sales Through Your Website

Ways To Improve Sales Through Your Website

Anyone who has been marketing online knows that the lifeblood of a business is the traffic of a site. More visitors equal more sales. However, here are some ways that you can tweak your sites with to improve sales without the need to get more visitors.

The first method is to weave in your personal touch in your sales message. Nobody wants to be sold to by a total stranger, but many people will buy what their close friends recommend to them. If you can convince your audience that you are a personal friend who has their best interest at heart, they will be convinced to buy your products. Remember to speak to an individual in your salesletter, not to your whole audience.

The second method is to publish testimonials and comments from your customers. A good idea would be to publish both good and bad comments; that way prospects will be really convinced that these testimonials are real. When prospects see testimonials on your website, they will have the confidence to buy from you because human beings follow the herd mentality; when others have bought and proven it authentic, they will jump on the bandwagon and buy too.

Use visual representations for the problems and solutions that your product offers. Not everyone will read your text copy from the head to the tail, but most people will pay attention to images on your website.

Offer quality bonuses to accompany the product. When you offer bonuses that complement your product, your prospects will feel it's a very good deal and it would be stupid to miss it. Be sure to state the monetary value of your bonuses so that people will be even more compelled to grab your good bargain.

Lastly, ask for the sale! Many people entice their prospects with the benefits of their product, sell to them with stories of how it has solved many problems, even offered killer bonuses but forget to ask for the sale. Give a clear instruction on how to buy your product (e.g. "click the button to buy now!").

5 Ways to Utilize Auto Navigation Systems and GPS Technology While Traveling

5 Ways to Utilize Auto Navigation Systems and GPS Technology While Traveling

If you have managed to do any research on auto navigation systems I'm sure you've come across countless nifty features that these devices have in common. While not all devices utilize the very same technology, it is great to know that cell phones today in addition to handheld auto navigation systems are utilizing technology that make travel and locating lost children, pets, and other loved ones a little bit easier to manage in today's hectic world.

There are many ways that the technology that drives GPS can improve our lives both at home and while we travel. Below you will find some great ways that this technology helps improve your overall travel experience.

1) Trip Planning. Not only are auto navigation systems great to have while on your trip, they are also quite useful when planning your trip. You will not have to listen to endless whining about whether we are there yet or how much fathers. Your children can listen along with you as you plan your trip and find out fascinating places to stop, view scenery, and get some great chow along the way. You should also be able to quite easily find out about neat shopping, shows, and other points of interest en route as well. Finding something for everyone keeps the entire family happy on your trip.

2) Finding restaurants, theatres, and nearby malls. This is very important not only when traveling to your destination but also once you've arrived. Many of the nicer auto navigation systems on the market today are able to sort restaurants that are nearby. These systems are much more than simple software that is designed for the sole purpose of giving directions. They are fully functional navigational tools. Some of them even have entertainment features, which will allow them to be used as ebook readers and/or MP3 players.

3) Keeping tabs of family in crowded situations. Even in the mall, you can have family members going off in different locations and keep track of them all. This is also true at graduation ceremonies and other events, which may call for family members spreading out over a large amount of space leaving some out of sight at times.

4) Security when away from home. The idea of being away from home, particularly with teens can be very frightening. We want them to be independent and at the same time we want to never let them out of our sight. Having a cell phone that allows GPS tracking of your teen is a great way to have the best of both worlds. You can keep a watchful eye on where they are without having them in your direct line of sight. This allows them the freedom to pursue their own interests and you the security of watching that happen.

5) Tracking important items while traveling. This may not seem like such a big deal until you've dealt with lost luggage a time or two. The truth is that this is a huge load off the minds of many, particularly when it comes to laptops and electronic devices that have important information.

If you haven't considered these reasons for purchasing an auto navigation system or making use of the many options for safety and security that GPS Technology allows in your life, it is time to give these things some serious thoughts. Our children are the most important thing in the world we can protect and it is well worth the minimal investment in the software required to assist in keeping them safe.
